Before I start on this piece I just want to say sorry that this is late, I've been trying to get my last assessment done, and then my health decided I was going to have a couple bad days.
Now that's been said on to the song. This is another song that makes me feel like I need to go on a road trip somewhere. It is a very smooth sounding song, it flows really nicely, reflecting the carefree feeling within the words of the song. The song starts with an echo of a strumming guitar, before it brings in percussion. The song has a really smooth and steady pace, it is really calming. I find Sasha Sloan's voice very soothing voice, it makes the song feel almost dream like, perhaps this is to reflect the dreams we all have inside of us.
The whole song is about living so that you don't have any regrets, meaning you'll 'be smiling when [you] die'. The song in the verses talks about all of the things that have been holding her back or that she needs to reflect on to be able to do the things that she wants to do, 'I guess I've got to start somewhere'. 'It's been a while since I threw back a shot' suggests to me that it's been awhile since she really let go, and just let herself be crazy and have fun, living in this fast paced world doesn't always allow time for these things. So, she needs to do these things soon as 'it's going by fast'. The song though, doesn't just look at going on all the of the holidays etc. that she can. But it also looks at the fact she hasn't spoken to her mother 'it's been a while since [she's] been home'. I think the lyrics are really important, as life was made for living how we want to, making time for the people we love, going on that trip, because far too many leave with regrets.
A little bit of an existential piece, I really hope you like my article and I hope you like the song too. I would love to know what you think. Thank you as always for reading x
