Louder - Taeyang

I thought today I would write about a song that has been stuck in my head for a while. This song was written for the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang. I'm not usually a sports person, but I actually enjoyed watching the Winter Olympics. I have listened to Taeyang's music since Ringa Linga came out. I am obviously talking about his solo career and not him within BigBang (as I have listened to them for longer). This song starts with electronic instruments and the backing singers singing oh's like a crescendo (gradually getting louder). This works perfectly with the song title; as they are singing a crescendo, as the song is called louder. It is making everyone excited about the event that they are here to see. The song is really upbeat and feels exciting, you can tell just by listening to it that it was made for an important event. I tend to listen to this song a lot when I am going for a walk at the moment, as it makes me want to push myself. Which again is perfect since the song was written for the Winter Olympics. Like I said I'm not the biggest fan of sports, but this got me excited for the event. The first lyric in the song is '파란 하늘에 크게 울려 퍼지는 함성소리' (The sounds of cheers ring loudly through the sky.' The song is setting us up for the events to come; as there is much audience participation going on. The lyrics that follow say '일어나 소리쳐 승리를 위해' (get up and shout for victory), again showing this excitement within the crowd. Though the song is mainly for the event, it is also a beautiful song for being yourself. Before the chorus, the song says 'Shine a Light, On the world 우리의 꿈을 이룰 수 있게.' (so our dreams can come true). These lyrics mean to me that as long as there is positivity, love and the like, you can make your dreams come true. The chorus states 'Let's get louder 온 세상에 Sing, Oh oh oh oh Oh oh oh oh 전해질 수 있게' (Let's get louder, the whole world Sing, Oh. [...] so they can hear us). This, to me, says we should all unite together to celebrate, something that I think is really important with the circumstances of the Corona-virus. People coming together, united by one thing is really important and beautiful. Perhaps that is why I have had this song stuck in my head for a while. One lyric that really stood out to me is '까만 밤하늘의 별보다 더 반짝이는 땀방울' (Sweat beads that sparkle more than the stars in the night sky). I found this lyric funny, but I get that it is being used to explain how hard these people are working.
