Loneliness for Love - Lovelytheband

Hello everyone! It has been a little while, although I don't feel 100%, I wanted to get back into doing the things I love to help me keep healthy and to continue in the progress I am making. Anyway here's on to what you are all here for haha.

Lovelytheband is a group that formed in 2016 in California. They would fit into the Indie genre as well as Alternative rock. When listening to their music, it reminds me of a mix between the music of the '60s and '80s. While the vocals feel more modern. I would say they have a similar sound to The 1975 and the Pale waves. So if you like their music, I have a feeling you will like Lovelytheband.

Loneliness with Love feels like the perfect song for a car journey in the summer sun. Albeit we can't do much at the moment, perhaps it would be a good reason for a change of scenery without breaking distancing rules. In the beginning of the song, it definitely reminds me of the '80s with a strong focus on the synths. After the synth intro, the other instruments come in. The song has a beautiful transition between the focus on the instruments before changing its attention to the vocals. The '80s influence also appears in the music video, as parts of it remind me of the movie Mannequin. I love how the music builds with the chorus, it's like a punch to get the message across. As if to say; if you take anything away from this song, let it be this. One thing that I did notice while watching the video was how happy the band members look to be playing the song, I really appreciated this little glimpse. Since many bands focus more on their 'aesthetic', it was nice to see that they looked genuinely happy to be playing. A song that would be wonderful to dance to and hopefully will played more in clubs.

To me, this song is talking about getting into a situation because you believe you love someone, but in fact, you're just lonely. The song starts with 'She creeps in at ungodly hours, Her love seems sweet, but it tastes so sour'. This line suggests that she is just using him for her own needs, and he is letting her because this is 'love' in his eyes. The thought of trying to 'find [yourself] in someone.' suggests that they were not whole to start with. I have heard of a lot of people soul searching within other people. However, the truth is that you can only find yourself in you and not within others, that is the only way to 'find anything to feel whole'.

'She shows up when she's uninvited, Every time that she sees me smiling.' this line really stuck out to me. It made me think that maybe she is controlling the person in the lyrics or that he doesn't really want to be with her, but he doesn't want to be alone, thus remains with her. It shows that this is a never-ending cycle for the lyricist. 'I've been here before, but this won't be the last time' and 'I say that I will, but I'll never change (but I'll never change) I've been here before, but I'm still the same.' These lyrics show that the lyricist acknowledges that they need to change, but they don't want to as fear holds them from moving forward. I see this so often in people, they acknowledge that they need to change, but something keeps them stuck in past cycles. I really love the message of this song, and I hope more artists will look into it in the future.

Thank you for reading, I really hope you enjoyed this piece and that perhaps you might take a look at the song. Video is linked below as is my Instagram and Youtube x
